Looking for a quality outdoor cushion source on the internet can be difficult with all of the cushion variations and terminology that is involved. Thats why Cushion Sources has dedicated this page to supplying the average consumer in the market for outdoor cushions with as much information about the different outdoor products as possible. We hope the following will be informative and helpful to you in your quest for a quality online cushion source or umbrella source to buy from.

Cushion Terminology

Cushion Types

  • Chair Cushions
The term "chair cushion" usually describes a cushion consisting of smaller hinged seat and back cushions that are connected either by sewing them together or sewing a channel into one large cushion to allow it to bend at a certain point. A chair cushion that is specifically made with two parts is usually called a deep-seating chair cushion which will be explained in more detail in the future.

  • Chaise Lounge Cushions
The term "chaise cushion" also describes a cushion consisting of hinged seat and back cushions that are connected however with chaise cushions the seat portion is much longer to allow the user to rest their legs on. Sort of like a chair cushion and ottoman cushion have been sewn together. If you are ordering a chaise lounge cushion for your patio chaise, make sure the cushion source you are buying from offers the chaise cushion in the same styles as the chair cushions they carry.

  • Ottoman Cushions
The term "ottoman cushion" is used to describe a footstool cushion. Some outdoor furniture and patio furniture manufacturers make a smaller artical of furniture called an ottoman that is used as a footstool that matches the chairs they produce. Many times a matching cushion is also placed on the ottoman to coordinate with the cushion on the actual chair frame that it is accompanying. If your chair frame comes with an accompanying ottoman cushion, ask your cushion source if they offer ottoman pads to match the chair cushions you are purchasing from them

  • Seat Cushions
The terms "seat cushions" or "chair seat cushions" are used to describe a cushion used for only the seat portion of a chair frame. Seat cushions do not come with attached back cushions or even seperate back cushions (that is a deepseat chair cushion). Be sure to ask your cushion source if the seat cushions they carry come with ties to secure the cushion to your frame. You don't want to be slipping and sliding around!

  • Bench Cushions
The terms "bench cushions" or "bench pads" are used to describe a cushion used for only the seat portion of a bench frame. Bench cushions do not come with attached back cushions such as the ones used on loveseats nor do they come with seperate back cushions (deepseat bench cushion). Be sure to ask your cushion source if the bench cushions they are offering come with ties to secure the cushion to indoor or outdoor bench. You don't want to keep trying to slide back onto the frame!

  • Throw Pillows
"Throw pillows" and "toss pillows" are usually square decrative pillows used to accent indoor and outdoor furniture. Color coordination of pillows is important because you always want to match your decor, however using the same color for pillows often does not look right. Ask your cushion source if they offer contrasting colors for their throw pillows and toss pillows!
